Ashlar is a high-ranking aristocrat aboard Asslam and the primary opposition faction leader against Princess Jamilah's rule within the Akdilek Commercial Alliance. Intelligence reports suggest he was involved in the death of Jamilah's father, the previous Amir. Following the succession, Ashlar attempted to install Jamilah as a controllable figurehead, believing that her youth and appearance would allow him to operate unchecked through her. However, this assessment proved incorrect.

Ashlar orchestrated an assassination attempt on Princess Jamilah, using Sophia as a pawn after the Corrupted swarm killed all of her maintenance crew members. He had Sophia reconstructed as a Construct and supplied her with falsified intelligence that falsely implicated Jamilah in the crew's deaths. However, the attempt failed when Jamilah revealed the actual records to Sophia, including written evidence from Sophia's former unit leader, Andre.

During the subsequent Gray Raven operation aboard Asslam, he continued to advocate for the Ascendant trade deal as the preferred outcome. He is also a primary suspect in the deaths of commoner carriage personnel during the Corrupted incursion that coincided with the Hetero-Core impact. His scheme was uncovered during the operation, and his current whereabouts are now unconfirmed. Additionally, his faction has been separated from ACA governance.
